After testing her mettle in the local TV landscape, GMA Artist Center talent Bela Padilla goes international via “Point of Entry,” a Singaporean series produced by Mediacorp.

BelaPadilla

Bela plays Analyn Ocampo in the series which is now running on its fourth season. She is a Philippine-based waitress who’s working hard to save money to study abroad and help her family. She crosses paths with the series’ main protagonist, Glenn Chua, a Singaporean fugitive whom she helps out and become friends with.

The pretty Kapuso actress shared, “There’s a big twist in my character. I taped 14 episodes, so that’s one season. By the seventh episode, my character evolves. So, it’s nice kasi, right now, that’s what’s airing in SG.”

In an interview with a local magazine, Bela gushed over her experience, “It’s my first time to work with a non-Filipino production and it’s such a great experience.” She further revealed that while celebrities have personal assistants in the Philippines, in Singapore, there are only a handful of people on the set.

“It was such a different experience for me, because I had to take note of everything so I could help out the assistant directors since there were other artists to be taken care of,” Bela shared.

Working in SG has also taught Bela to further enjoy life’s simple pleasures like taking the bus going to work, or enjoying the city’s sights during her free time.

Meanwhile, Bela is back in Sunday All Stars as one of its regular performers. She’s also busy making the rounds in several Kapuso shows like Tonight with Arnold Clavio, Taste Buddies, Day Off, and Bubble Gang.

Bela has been the lead in Kapuso soaps’ Magdalena and Love and Lies. Recently, her talent was further recognized when she given the Best Supporting Actress award at Gawad Tanglaw for her performance in the Metro Manila Film Fest entry 10,000 Hours.

He didn’t make it in the teenage reality show Starstruck. But as they say, there’s always a next time and a host of other opportunities. This served true for Kapuso actor-comedian Jan Manual after landing the lead role in an episode of CBN Asia’s Holy Week Special “Tanikala: My Sister, My Lover.”

Jan Manual and Sheena

In the episode, Jan plays the role of Art Duyan, a former self-confessed gay who fell in love with a woman named Cora, performed by Kapuso actress Sheena Halili.

“Art’s story is very special. He struggled with his identity and addictions but at the end, he discovered his worth and found his true identity. That’s one of the reasons why I accepted the role. I know a lot of the viewers will be able to relate to this,” Jan shared.

The former Starstruck avenger admits, however, that this is not his first “gay” role portrayal. “I’ve had previous gay roles so I can say I’ve become somehow used to it. But of all the “beki” characters I’ve played, Art’s is the most inspiring.”

Jan2

When asked if he still finds the part challenging despite his being a “pro” in “beki” roles, Jan said: “Definitely yes. “My Sister, My Lover” is not just pure comedy and entertainment, there’s also heavy drama so it really puts my acting skills to the test.”

He added, “Also, I still have those awkward moments especially when I’m doing scenes with a guy. But I want this role so I really prepared for it. And I prayed to God to help me in this.”

A natural comedian that he is, Jan ensures that the audience will surely enjoy watching the comedy-drama special. Catch Jan Manual’s portrayal in “My Sister, My Lover” on April 17, Maundy Thursday at 5:30 p.m. on GMA. For updates, LIKE the official fanpage of Tanikala, www.facebook.com/tanikalatv.

Aljur Abrenica has once again proven that he is more than just a hunk with a handsome face. He also has a big heart, one that is willing to help people in any way that he can.

Aljur2

More than a week after celebrating his birthday with the scholars of World Vision, the Kambal Sirena star wowed the bystanders of Eastwood City Walk 2 with an impromptu musical number rendered to raise Cancer awareness.

Musikaramay

The unexpected performance happened in Eastwood. While Aljur was rehearsing for a corporate gig, an ongoing event called Musikaramay caught his eye. Organized by a band called Climax, Musikaramay gathers musicians from all walks of life to perform for a worthy cause. That day Musikaramay was raising funds for kids with cancer. Without hesitation, Aljur took the stage and performed two songs by the band Maroon 5.

Overwhelmed by the actor’s spontaneous act of kindness, Climax recently posted a photo of Aljur’s good deed on Musikaramay’s official Instagram account.

Aljur3

Below that photo was this caption: “Aljur Abrenica didn’t hesitate to jam with us last Thursday at Eastwood. He was just at the event beside us when he saw us playing for a cause. He explained how moved he was by the advocacy. Thanks for sharing your talent and time to kids with cancer. God bless you, bro!” At their official Facebook account, Musikaramay organizers described Aljur as “unselfish, accommodating, and very down to earth.”

The GMA News TV “May Pag-asa” campaign is a collection of stories of hope aimed to show the power of the human heart to see light in the midst of darkness.

Jessica Soho

It does this by revealing the little known tragedies and challenges behind the success of GMA News TV’s personalities. In this station and social media campaign, they share their personal struggles (#maypinagdadaanan) and how these became their source of hope (#maypagasa). They also share life stories of a few of their news and documentary subjects so that others can draw inspiration from them.

For seven years, Vicky Morales prayed to have a child. She tried everything -from medical intervention to dancing in Obando. Despite the long wait, she never lost hope. Vicky is now blessed with not just one, but three lovely children.

Jay Taruc was devastated when he learned that his only daughter Sophie has Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Sophie cannot walk and may be taken from their family at any time. Jay now spends every possible moment with his daughter.

Cesar Apolinario used to sell cigarettes on the street while Susan Enriquez had to work in a carinderia. Their earnings helped put them through school. Now the two are award-winning journalists.

Solenn Heussaff was bullied at a young age for being overweight. She taught herself to be strong and eat healthy and transformed into an icon of fashion and beauty.

Mel Tiangco suffered from a heart attack while Winnie Monsod experienced a stroke while on the air. Surviving these life threatening conditions pushed them to pursue their advocacies with even more passion.

Mike Enriquez

Mike Enriquez has been married 37 years to his wife Baby. Early in their marriage, the two realized a baby was not in their destiny. Instead of focusing on what they lacked, they decided to work on maintaining a blissful marriage.

Beyond the experiences of its hosts, the channel honors the unwavering spirit of the Filipino and their indomitable courage to stand up and move forward through this campaign.

GMA News TV believes that we are all have our own story of hope. And as we help one another rise up, we help our nation rewrite its future.

The heartwarming MAY PAG-ASA campaign launches on national television this Monday, November 17 at the end of State of the Nation with Jessica Soho.

“Ano ang Kwento ng Pag-asa Mo?” is the campaign’s theme song performed by Johnoy Danao and co-written by Johnoy with GMA News TV program manager Nena Celle Dumol and executive producer Joni Mosatalla. The song was composed and arranged by Ronald Tomas.

The GMA News TV station ID was shot by director Adolf Alix Jr. and filmed using ARRI Amira cameras provided by CMB Film Services Inc., with the drone shots captured by anchor/reporter Raffy Tima.

THEME SONG LYRICS:

Nadarama mo ba
Di ka nag-iisa
May kasama’t karamay ka
sa iyong pag-aalala

Ngayon ang panahon
maniwala sa tanging taglay
Na ang iyong pangarap
ay may katuparan

Ano ang kwento ng pag-asa mo?
Gusto kong marinig
nang maisapuso
Pinagdadaanan laging may dahilan
Silayin mo ang ganda at liwanag ng buhay
May magagawa ka
Manalig ka

Ano ang kwento ng pag-asa mo?
Gusto kong marinig
nang maisapuso

Ang iyong tagumpay
sa amin ay magiging gabay
Isulong ang hangad
na liwanag ng buhay
Mangarap ka
Manalig
Sa kwento ng pag-asa mo

There are nightmares that you bring even into your waking hours. Tragedies so deep it seems the hurt may never heal.

Sandra iWitness

For the students of Bayug Elementary School, the horror still grip them, two years after Typhoon Sendong hit Iligan City.

In the documentary “Batch 2012”, I-Witness shared the story of Limuel Gonzaga, who graduated salutatorian despite losing his mother, his home and his entire school to the massive flooding that destroyed his community. He may have lost everything, but not his dreams and his determination. He is now studying in a private school through the help of his sponsors.

Inside the classroom, Limuel sits in the middle surrounded by classmates much bigger than him. His shy and quiet demeanor belies the strength of a child who has stared death in the face and forges on even though faced with extreme poverty. Not many of his classmates know that the “little guy” who ranks number one in class, sometimes goes to school hungry and completes his homework in the dark.

As part of I-Witness’ 15th anniversary series, Sandra Aguinaldo goes back to Iligan City to celebrate the inspiring story of a boy who braved all odds, this Saturday on GMA-7, after Celebrity Bluff.

A couple of years ago, I-Witness showed the world the heartwrenching documentary about patients admitted to the burn unit of Davao City Medical Center, the only hospital catering to burn victims in all of Mindanao.

As part of I-Witness’ 15th anniversary, Jay Taruc and his team go back to the place where pain and tears are synonymous with healing.

Quite a lot has happened in two years. The burn unit has been renamed “Rizal D. Aportadera, Jr. Burn Center” to honor the name of the doctor whose efforts and sacrifice were instrumental in saving the lives of burn patients.

After the local and international airing of the episode entitled “Lapnos,” according to Dr. Aportadera, many people from around the world sent donations to help in their own way.

Sadly, it is not enough. The poor victims still cannot cope financially and physically.

Join Jay Taruc as he enters the doors of the burn unit once again to meet the patients who endure pain to survive. Don’t miss “Hapdi ng Lapnos” this Saturday on I-Witness, after Celebrity Bluff.

Throwback2014

After months of searching and showcasing Filipino homegrown talents all over the country, it’s going to be the battle of the best tonight (December 28) on the Grand Finals Showdown of GMA Network’s widest reality talents search Bet ng Bayan hosted by Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and Kapuso prime leading man Alden Richards.

Bet ng Bayan

Happening at the SM Mall of Asia Music Hall, viewers will definitely witness spectacular performances from the contestants representing Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao, and Mega Manila.

Judges Maestro Louie Ocampo, Pop Diva Kuh Ledesma, and Asia’s Nightingale Lani Misalucha will determine who will be hailed as Bet sa Kantahan, Bet sa Sayawan, and Bet sa Kakaibang Talento.

Bet sa Kantahan finalists will battle it out for the grand finals. Will the Pangasinan power belter Renz Robosa take the spot, or will the overpowering love of the Visayan chanteuse, Hannah Precillas, for her late mother lead her to be the winner? Kierulf King Raboy of Mindanao will also attempt to be the next Bet sa Kantahan to finally prove that he still got what it takes to be a star after winning Pop Star Kids years ago. But of course, no one should miss the soothing voice of the Mega Manila muse, Veronica Atienza.

All set to fire up the dance floor would be the finalists of Bet sa Sayawan. Representing Luzon is UNEP Dance Club, whose members are scholars of the University of North Eastern University. They will leave us in awe with their precise choreography and energetic performance. Exhibiting Visayan talent is the Don Juan group, who could make the audience groove with them through their funky masterpiece. Mindanao’s pride, D’Gemini, will do what it takes to be known for their passion in dancing. Meanwhile, A’s Crew won’t let anything stop them in making Mega Manila proud with the performance they have in store.

Moreover, Bet sa Kakaibang Talento contestants are ready to prove their unique skills. Will Luzon’s bet Jason Sobremonte amaze the judges? Is Master of Pain Gerard Caingoy from the Visayas ready with his new stunts? The show will certainly heat up with Jomar Abjelina’s fire dance from Mindanao while Techno Jazz from Manila wows the crowd.

Catch who will be the nation’s bet on Bet Ng Bayan Grand Finals Showdown tonight after Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho on GMA.
